Don't forget to bring the card games and board games! There is a sitting area opposite the kitchen that has a coffee table, couch and loveseat set, along with two end tables. You can relax and soak in the nature and water views from the two sliding doors that lead out to the deck. On the deck enjoy the peaceful surroundings while you have your morning cup of joe in one of the Adirondack chairs looking out onto the water. A family size propane grill is ready for use on the covered, suspended deck. After your adventures for the day are through, have no worries: your bed has already been made and prepped for your arrival. Down the hall from the kitchen you will find the 3 bedrooms. There is a master suite with a full bath consisting of shower stall, toilet, and sink. Enjoy the queen size bed and small, walk in closet. A washing machine and dryer are located in the attached mechanical room. If you would like to do some laundry during your stay, pack your detergent and dryer sheets. The television is NOT hooked up to cable, but rather runs off of our camp's Wifi and has the hookup for YouTube tv ready to go. If you are tech savvy and wanted to bring along a DVD player or a game station for those cold or rainy days, feel free. Don't forget any neccessary plugs, cords, etc for hookup. We do not provide extension cords or any additional electrical hookups for movie players, game stations, etc. The TV is accompanied by two full size futons which can be laid down for additional sleeping space should you need more beds to accommodate your party. The additional linens for the futons are in the loft on shelves outside of the bathroom. The third and final bathroom in our camp has a tub/shower combo along with a sink and toilet. Check out the hand crafted railings along the edge of the loft for your safety and awesome lake views from the windows in the peaks directly across. You will not be disappointed with the comforts available to you inside and the pristine water and rocky shore of the lake is only a hop, skip, and a jump down the path. Bring some firewood to use in the firepit and don't forget those marshmallows. The dock is a great spot to sit and soak in the sunrise and/or sunset as well. The Pine Tree Store offers fresh pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, fishing supplies, cold drinks, hand-scooped ice cream, and limited groceries. Our love for the great outdoors, the solitude, the miles of undeveloped shoreline, are things that we do not take for granted. The amazing wildlife, moose, deer, loons and eagles are just some of the things you will see while visiting. Whether it is kayaking, boating, canoeing or just finding the perfect cove or island for a picnic, you will find the lack of seeing boat after boat and bustling refreshing. In the evening sit back and relax by our lakeside fire pit on the swing. If this 7x2 mile lake is not enough to keep you busy and entertained you can also reach by boat, kayak or canoe another 11 lakes. Can be seen on Google Earth just type in the address bar Junior Lake Maine and it will take you to Boyce cove. Keywords: Private, cozy lakefront cabin. Relax, fish, swim, kayak, canoe, boat or hike.

7 private acres on Meddybemps Lake, Alexander, Maine backed by 300+ acres of conservation land. Property has its own sandy beach extending far into the lake (one of few natural freshwater beaches in Maine). Year round residence built in 2003 has right to use adjacent 300+ acres of conservation land private to neighborhood. Kayaks equipped for four paddlers (one double and two singles). Home has two upstairs bedrooms with double beds with shared full bath and downstairs bedroom with kingsize bed and private bath. Eat-in screened sunporch. Gas fireplace. Handicapped friendly (first floor bedroom and bathroom, lever door handles, wheelchair wide doorways and ramp access to house, second floor staircase dual railings to help with balance). Fall foliage and winter cross country skiing and ice fishing. Jean, one of the owners, grew up spending vacations on the lake. A favorite spot of hers, and her father and his brothers before her was a remote sandy beach you could only access by boat. When the property came up for sale many years later, she and her husband Rob bought it. Working with a local conservation group, the character of the land has been preserved, but now the beach is a short walk away - and private to their property. It's a very quiet spot, and remains, to many, the loveliest spot on the lake. Great swimming and boating. Gas grill and picnic table, hammock and beach chairs on beach. Kayaks are provided or bring your own boat and beach it on the white sand. Eat-in heated sunporch. Grocery stores, golf, hospital, restaurants 15 minutes away. Fish for bass (no limit), landlocked salmon, or white perch. Ice cream stand and restaurant 1.8 miles away. Special announcement: Covid-19 information for all folks seeking to vacation in Maine: Due to the many inquiries we have gotten in the past week, since Maine has now opened its borders to summer tourists, here is the most updated information we can share with those thinking about a serene getaway at Pikku Suomi. Anyone from anywhere can now book a vacation stay in Maine beginning June 1. Anyone from out of state is required to self quarantine for the first 14 days of your visit. You will need to bring all your food provisions with you, or take advantage of the food pick up and delivery options that we can offer any guests from out of state who book our property. We are building our list of such helpers to make sure our guests know they can get the provisions they need. After the first 14 days, you are asked to wear face masks in any public settings you might visit, stores, banks, etc. At this point, to our knowledge, the Canadian Border is still closed to foreigners. Maine has been one of the states that has taken this global pandemic seriously. Washington County, where our summer rental is located, has had only 2 cases and 0 deaths as of the end of May. Therefore, anyone who does not take the mandatory quarantine, or the simple request to wear a mask in public places while in Maine seriously, please scroll on by. We wish to protect our guests and our Maine friends and neighbors alike. Welcome to Pikku Suomi (Little Finland), your perfect any-season! Floor to ceiling windows look out on evergreen & birch woods to a beautiful & secluded cove just beyond. This all-season house features radiant heat, a well-stocked kitchen, cozy bedroom, quiet den, beautiful views, and an airy open floor plan. Over an acre of land with 200 feet of waterfront provide a wonderful sense of privacy & contemplation. A deck runs the length of the house, where you can sit and listen to the birds. A seasonal dock is a great place for sunning yourself, watching the early morning sunrise with a cup of coffee, and getting into the cool, clear lake water. The 6,675 acres of Lake Meddybemps support some of the best fishing in the state of Maine. You will love looking out of the massive wall of windows out to the lake. Your canine furbabies are welcome here. The seacoast of Maine, and Canada’s Fundy coast, are nearby. So whether you are a birder, paddler, swimmer, fisher, fall foliage enthusiast or cross-country skier, in whatever season that you visit, you will love returning to Pikku Suomi - truly a Maine vacation paradise. Other Amenities: Bose sound system for radio and CD (plays MP3s as well.) Broadband wireless. Parking for boat/snowmobile trailer. Boat launch for larger boats nearby. Unique, Special, Authentic Maine Woods Experience! Enjoy this rustic bunkhouse located just steps off the shore of one of Maine's cleanest spring-fed lakes. Good for couples, families, large groups, retreats and more. Tune in to the nature of the Great North Woods to enjoy hiking, boating, fishing (salmon, trout and bass), swimming, kayaking, mushroom hunting and gorgeous sunsets. Full kitchen, living room, upstairs bedroom sleeps 8, large deck/terrace leads right down to the water. The space Rare experience to be in "Unorganized Territory" of Maine, on a crystal clear lake that has limited development (it's now part of a conservation easement). The Bunkhouse is owned by The BARKA Foundation, a 501c3 charitable organization that drills wells, constructs latrines, and empowers women and girls in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Funds from the rental of the Bunkhouse go directly to helping BARKA fulfill its mission! Check out more information at https://barkafoundation.org. Guest access Brand new barbecue grill available on the deck overlooking the lake, free parking, and we have 2 kayaks and 1 paddleboard for rent (if you need more you can also rent at the Ski Rack in Bangor). This is an internet free zone (there is no wifi, so unplug and reconnect to nature!), however you may be able to access a wireless signal on our signal booster (Verizon and US cellular work best providing 1-3 bars, ATT not so much). A chiminea is available for safe outdoor fires, however we ask that you use extreme fire saftey at all times because we live in an area vulnerable to forest fire (the ground is largely peat and fire can spread underground). Other things to note: Please note that the bunkhouse does not have a bathroom however comes equipped with a clean and comfortable outhouse. There is also a shower stall to take a bucket shower: COMPOSTING TOILET The outhouse is neat and clean. There should be ample toilet paper, paper towel, hand sanitizer, and a working light in the outhouse. Composting humanure is a profound thing to do that can seriously benefit the planet- turning your own waste into a source of fuel and nourishment for plants. In fact, this takes the whole idea of 'dealing with your own shit' to a new level-- and quite a literal one too! ;-) The bunkhouse has cold lake water to the kitchen sink and no hot water heater. However we provide a large pot to heat water up for bucket showers which are really fun and has a way of raising your water consciousness! SMOKING There is no smoking in the bunkhouse. POWER Power is supplied through batteries charged by solar panels. We ask all guests to conserve power and turn lights off when not being used. WIFI There is no wifi, however Verizon and US Cellular give a 1-2 bar signal; ATT doesn't fare as well here. We have a signal booster in the house which might help provide another bar or two. That said, try unplugging while you're here! OUTDOOR FIRES The bunkhouse has a chiminea for safe outdoor fires. The area is very prone to forest fire so we ask that everyone use extreme caution and have acute awareness around fire safety. We have wood available for your use. KAYAKS/PADDLEBOARDS We have two kayaks and 1 paddleboard for rent. Prices: Kayak: $25/day Paddleboard: $35/day If you would like to make use of the kayaks and/or paddleboard you must sign a release form and take responsibility for their care. Be advised that weather conditions can change rapidly and there is often wind which can make kayaking and paddleboarding challenging (we don't recommend using them with winds above 6mph unless you are experienced). About the Location We are part of a small community of camp owners on the lake. The lake is roughly 2 miles by 1 mile. We simply ask that you be respectful and conscientious at all times. Please stay within the boundaries of the Bunkhouse property. There is a short path to our camp if you need to come and get us for any reason or to access the paddleboat or kayak. Getting around We will provide driving directions to this remote location. Once you're here, you won't want to go anywhere. There are some trails through the woods that we can direct you to if you want to go for a walk, and believe it or not there is a popular restaurant only a mile away on Nicatous Lake that has great fish and chips and other friend delectables. It's called Jack's Snack Shack and is quite the lunch or dinner destination (people come from far and wide on their ATVs to eat here). Just make sure they're open because their hours can be unpredictable depending on the season. You can find more information about Jack's here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g40545-d5210335-Reviews-Jack_s_Snack_Shack-Burlington_Maine.html

HISTORY The cabin was likely built in the 1930's to 50's and was part of a logging operation. The cabin enjoyed phone service for a while from the Narraguagus Telephone Company, which closed operations around World War II. The cabin phone was made out of wood and the line ran along the bottom of the lake. The cabin was a hunting camp for a few decades. A few deer antlers still hang on the wall. At one point, the cabin had a bear skin rug. A famous Maine Guide owned the property for a about a decade. In 1925, he was the youngest guide in the state. This person designed a canoe that is still in production today. Prior to 1980, accessing the cabin involved parking a vehicle and driving a Model T about a mile and crossing a low part of the Narraguagus River. Then after parking the Model T, people carried their gear through the woods to the lakeshore. From there, people put their gear into a canoe and paddled across the lake. Later, after years of logging and new roads, today's access just requires 4 miles of dirt roads and 1/3 mile hike.
